Catawba Falls to Newberry in SAC Play
SALISBURY, NC -- The Catawba College tennis teams fell to South Atlantic Conference foe Newberry on Wednesday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center. The Catawba women fell 6-3 to the Lady Wolves dropping their record to 10-11 overall and 2-5 in the SAC. The Indian men now stand at 8-12 overall and 1-6 in the conference after losing 8-1 on Wednesday. The Newberry women are now 10-5 overall and 6-1 in the SAC while the men are 8-6 and 5-2.
The Lady Indians started off behind 3-0 after doubles play. In singles action, Catawba’s Liz Renteria claimed a three set victory. Newberry would bounce back claiming the next three matches before Ally Prior and Olivia Myers would take the #5 and #6 spots to finish out the day.
In men’s action Newberry started start and didn’t look back. The only point that the Indians claimed was at the #4 singles position. Michael Patch won the point for Catawba after defeating Carlos Nicolopulos 7-6, 6-4.
Catawba returns to action on Thursday to host Lenoir-Rhyne at 2pm.
