Anderson Muscles Past Indians in SAC Play
SALISBURY, NC -- The Catawba College tennis teams dropped a pair of South Atlantic Conference matches to Anderson on Friday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center. The Catawba women suffered a 5-4 loss to drop their record to 11-13 overall and 3-7 in the SAC. The Indian men now stand at 8-15 overall and 1-9 in the conference after losing 7-2 on Friday. The Anderson women are now 7-5 overall and 6-2 in the SAC while the men are 7-6 and 7-1.
The Lady Indians were behind after a 2-1 split in doubles action where the duo of Ally Prior and Olivia Myers claimed a 9-8 win at the #3 position. In singles action, Catawba’s Liz Renteria claimed a three set victory. Anderson would respond by claiming quick victories at the #2, #3 and #5 flights. With the victory in hand the Lady Trojans retired from the two remaining matches.
In men’s action, Anderson swept the Indians with three 8-4 victories. Catawba would claim two singles victories at the #2 and #3 positions with Matthew Nicholson and Jack Mordey. The Indians had no answers for Anderson though as the Trojans claimed the final three positions.
Catawba returns to action on Tuesday to host Barton at 2pm.
