Rutherford and Hardman Earn Honorable Mention All-SAC Men's Golf Honors
ROCK HILL, SC -- Catawba’s Tyler Rutherford (Independence, VA/Grayson Co. HS) and Matt Hardman (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg Area HS) have earned South Atlantic Conference Men’s Golf honorable mention all-conference honors. It was announced on Thursday by the SAC office.
Rutherford holds a slim lead over Hardman for the low stroke average on the team this season. He has averaged 74.14 strokes over his 22 rounds and has led the team at four events. The sophomore was medalist in the fall at the Full Moon BBQ Invitational as he closed with a career-best round of 66. Rutherford also had a top 10 at the Hargett Memorial and has shot par or better in 10 of his rounds.
Hardman has averaged 74.32 strokes over his 22 rounds. He has led the team at six events with a pair of fifth-place finishes on the year. He was fifth at the Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate at the site of next week’s conference tournament and also collected a fifth-place finish at the Matt Dyas Invitational. The junior has seven rounds at par or better.
Lincoln Memorial junior Rand Wasson was been voted as the Player of the Year. Wasson currently has the SAC’s top adjusted scoring average, per GolfStat.com, at 73.11 He won the individual title at March’s Tusculum Invitational, and posted three second-place finishes at events this season.
Wasson is joined on the All-SAC First Team - which is determined by adjusted scoring average – by Wingate’s Benedict Gebhardt, Carson-Newman’s Jonathan Kim-Moss, Queens’ Alex Weare and LMU’s Braden Galyon.
Gebhardt has an adjusted scoring average of 73.28, Kim-Moss is at 73.37, Weare has an average of 73.56, and Galyon stands at 73.61.
Adam Lumley, of Mars Hill, earned SAC Freshman of the Year accolades after finishing the regular season with a 74.59 adjusted scoring average. He won individual titles at the King Invitational and State Farm Intercollegiate in the fall.
In his program’s first season in the SAC, Queens’ Sam Puryear was voted as the conference’s Coach of the Year. The Royals won the Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate in March, and registered two runner-up finishes in the fall.
