HARROGATE, TN -- Catawba was eliminated from the 2014 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Softball Tournament with a pair of losses on Saturday afternoon at Neely Field.  The Catawba Indians lost a heartbreaking 3-2 decision to Anderson before an 8-0 setback to Wingate.  Catawba ends its season at 26-21.  Wingate and Anderson will play on Sunday for the tournament title.

Catawba nearly got to Sunday undefeated, but Abby Child hit a two-run walk off homer with one out the bottom of the seventh to give Anderson the win.  Carley Tysinger (Lexington, NC/C. Davidson HS) allowed the three runs on six hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.  She also hit two batters.

The Lady Indians got a run in the first as Tysinger, who had walked, came in to score on a groundout by Katherine Shumaker (Blanch, NC/Bartlett Yancy HS).  Anderson tied it up in the bottom half.  Holli Chandler (New London, NC/N. Stanly HS) put Catawba up 2-1 with a home run in the fifth.

Shumaker and Morgan Brann (Beulaville, NC/E. Duplin HS) had two hits in the loss for the Lady Indians.  Molly Child, who singled before the home run, had three hit for Anderson.  Abby Child had two hits.  Augie Pena (8-1) picked up the win with two and two-thirds innings of shutout relief.  She surrendered two hits, walked two and struck out three.

In the ensuing elimination game, Wingate struck for six runs in the second and cruised to the win.  The Bulldog rapped out seven hits in the frame that was capped by a two-run single from Alexis Burrell.  Wingate added two more runs in the fourth on a double from Kayla Saliga and the game ended after five innings.

Taylor Bates (10-9) held Catawba to just two hits.
