Tysinger Grabs Spot on SAC Softball All-Tournament Team

HARROGATE, TN -- Catawba sophomore pitcher Carley Tysinger (Lexington, NC/C. Davidson HS) was voted to the 2014 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Softball All-Tournament Team.  It was announced Monday by the conference office.  Anderson shortstop Abby Child was named the tournament MVP after leading the Trojans to the tournament title.

Child had seven hits in 12 at-bats during the tournament, punctuated by a walk-off two-run homer on Saturday to send Anderson to the title game. She also posted two additional home runs, eight RBI, three walks and three runs during the event, and her 17 total bases were a tournament-high.  The senior went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI in AU’s 5-0 championship game victory over Wingate.

Tysinger was the story of day one as she led Catawba’s upset of top-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne in 16 innings as she struck out a NCAA II record 27 batters in the win.  She nearly led the Lady Indians into the championship game, but the bid was spoiled by a walk-off two-run home run by Child in the winner’s bracket final.

Tysinger finished the tournament with 41 strikeouts over 28 and a third innings.  She allowed 25 hits with eight walks and surrendered eight runs (seven earned) over four appearances.  She had one win and one save.
