Myers Named Second Team Academic All-American for Tennis


YOUNG HARRIS, GA -- Catawba senior Olivia Myers (Lexington, NC/E. Davidson HS) has earned second team Capital One Academic All-America At-Large Team honors.  The Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Women’s At-Large program includes the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo.

Myers, a tennis player, posted a 3.98 GPA while majoring in biology.  She went 16-6 for Catawba in singles this past season, mainly playing at the #5 and #6 positions and went 7-3 in league matches.  Myers was 6-5 in doubles action with a 4-4 mark in conference play.  In her career, Myers won 17 singles matches at the #5 flight which was fourth most at that position in school history.  Her 15 victories at #6 were the fifth most wins.

Off the court, Myers served as SGA Sophomore and Junior Class President as well as a Class Senator as a freshman and senior.  She was a Junior Marshal and a member of the Alpha Chi, Phi Epsilon, Gamma Sigma Epsilon and Tri-Beta honor societies.  Myers will continue her studies in veterinarian medicine at NC State.

Myers was named the South Atlantic Conference Scholar Athlete for both Women’s Tennis and Women’s Cross Country.  She has also earned Academic All-District 3 honors for cross country.  Myers was a Dean’s List member each semester at Catawba and was also named to the Presidential Honor Roll.

The 15 members of the Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Women’s At-Large First Team combined for a 3.95 G.P.A., including four student-athletes with a 4.00 G.P.A. In total, nine members of the Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Women’s At-Large first, second and third teams had a 4.00 G.P.A., while the 45-member team had a combined 3.89 G.P.A.
The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2013-14 DII and DIII Academic All-America teams program.
