Four Earn NCCSIA All-State Baseball Honors
Four members of the Catawba College baseball team have earned All-State honors from the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA). Craig Brooks (Monroe, NC/Parkwood HS) and Ryan McClintock (Matthews, NC/Providence HS) were first team honorees, while Keaton Hawks (Lexington, NC/E. Davidson HS) and T.J. Wharton (Lutz, FL/Bishop McLaughlin/Guilford Tech) were second team picks.
Brooks, a junior pitcher, was named not only the South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Year, but also the Southeast Region Pitcher of the Year by all three major post-season outlets. He was named a second team All-American by both Daktronics and the ABCA, while earning third team All-America honors from the NCBWA. Brooks finished with a 12-3 record, a 2.32 earned run average and 104 strikeouts.
McClintock, a senior pitcher, posted a 4-0 record with eight saves and a 2.20 earned run average en route to all-league, all-region and honorable mention All-American accolades.
Hawks, a senior outfielder, was named second team All-SAC and to the SAC All-Tournament team. He also finished up his career by grabbing All-Southeast Region Tournament honors. He batted .354 on the year with a team-high 80 hits and drove in 46 runs.
Wharton, a junior catcher and designated hitter, swatted a team-high 10 home runs and also led the team with 57 RBI. He was named first team All-SAC and second team all-region.
Twenty-four players representing seven different North Carolina Universities and Colleges were named to the All-State College Division teams. UNC Pembroke led the way with five selections followed by Wingate, Catawba and Greensboro with four each.
Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.
