Hardman Qualifies for US Amateur; Griffis to Play in NC Match Play Championship
Catawba College’s Matt Hardman (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg Area HS), a rising senior, has qualified for the United States Amateur Championship. Another rising senior, Zach Griffis (Winston-Salem, NC/Mt. Tabor HS), has advanced to the North Carolina Match Play Championship.
Hardman qualified for the US Amateur in a playoff for the final spot at the CC of Harrisburg. He was able to make a par on the third playoff hole to advance. He shot rounds of 68 and 78 to get into the playoff.
The 2014 US Amateur will be held from August 11-17 at the Atlanta Athletic Club. The field of 312 golfers will play two rounds of stroke play with the low 64 scorers advancing to match play. Six rounds of match play will begin on August 13 with a 36-hole Championship Match to be held on August 17.
Griffis carded a 76 at the Forest Oaks CC to qualify for the NC Match Play Championship. It will be held from July 30 to August 3 at the River Landing CC in Wallace, NC. Two rounds of stroke play will cut the field to 32 for match play, which will begin on August 1.
