No. 9: Nate Charest sets football record with 73 catches in a season
Senior Nate Charest broke the single-season reception record with 73 in 2013. He bested the mark of 70 set by Corey Ready in 2003.
Charest opened the season with nine catches against West Liberty and followed with seven at Livingstone. The senior had seven or more catches in eight of the 11 games. The low mark for Charest on the year came in the third game against Newberry, which was played in heavy rains for much of the game.
Charest made up for the one catch over the next five games, amassing 41 catches with a season-high 10 for 153 yards against UNC Pembroke. After snagging eight balls at North Greenville, Charest went into the final game with 69 receptions. On the second possession against Lenoir-Rhyne, Charest caught a four-yard pass from Mike Sheehan to tie the record. The record-breaking reception came on the final drive of the first half, making a 16-yard grab to help set up a field goal for the Indians.
