Football Practice Report: Day 8
After seven days of practice, Catawba held its first football scrimmage on Wednesday. Coach Curtis Walker tabbed it as a much needed scrimmage and the team was able to get in about 60 plays on a warm late afternoon.
“The scrimmage today gives us a gage on where we are in the preparation for the 2014 season,” stated Walker. “We had some really well executed plays, but also some plays that left me scratching my head on how we could mess them up so bad. It was good to have the officials here to help our team understand the disciplines of the game.”
“With that said, I think that we are on track,” continued Walker. “It was our first official all-out scrimmage and it looked very similar to the other 22 first scrimmages over my career. I am still impressed with the football IQ of Mike Sheehan. He is doing an outstanding job of leading our offense. I also thought that our defensive line had a good day. We got in some good work but still have plenty to do.”
The team is back to normal practices to end the week before the second of three scrimmages which is scheduled for Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
