Weisner's Second Game Winner Leads Catawba to 3-2 Overtime Win Against Palm Beach Atlantic
ST. AUGUSTINE'S, FL -- Freshmen Becky Frost and Kate Weisner again led the Catawba College women's soccer team to a 3-2 overtime victory over Palm Beach Atlantic Sunday morning at Flagler College's Saints Field. The victory gives the Catawba Lady Indians a 2-0 start to the season while Palm Beach Atlantic falls to 0-2 on the early season.
The Sailfish were the first to score in the game when Audrey Decker took a pass from Laura Geisler at top corner of the box. The goal led the Sailfish to a 1-0 lead by halftime.
Catawba would quickly respond with a goal by Frost just two minutes in the second half. Frost scored the goal on a rebound of her own missed shot. Midway through the half Weisner would help the Indians take the lead by putting a rebound header past the goalie.
Kasey Wyer would even up the score for the Sailfish with just four minutes remaining in regulation. Wyer was assisted by Lexy Gonzalez who crossed the ball in off a right side run down the field.
In overtime, Weisner would record her second game winner in just two career games. Mary Kirkman lobbed a pass across the penalty box that managed to find the head of Weisner for the win.
Catawba coach Michael Swan summarized the game, "Overall we did enough to win today. Palm beach showed up with great energy and were able control the game early. We made some quick adjustments and we were able to settle in to the game. This weekend was one of the toughest starts we've had opening weekend in a while and the girls truly deserved the two wins."
The Catawba Lady Indians will continue their season opening road trip on Wednesday evening as they travel to Mount Olive at 4:00pm.
