Lady Indians Claim 8-1 Victory Over Johnson C. Smith
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Catawba College tennis teams each claimed their first win of the season after defeating Johnson C. Smith Saturday morning at the Coleman/Cuthbertson Tennis Courts. Both Catawba teams move to 1-1 on the year with win. The Catawba men claimed a 9-0 sweep while the Lady Indians won 8-1.
In men’s doubles Catawba surrendered just one game all day. In singles action the play was not much closer. The closest matchup all day came in the third flight between Catawba’s Michael Patch and Yusef Barnes. Patch came away with the win after scores of 6-2 and 6-1.
In women’s action, the Golden Bulls were able to claim their only point of the day in the singles second flight. Catawba’s Kristen Rocko narrowly fell in three sets to Rankin Anderson by scores of 4-6, 6-2 and 5-7. Three Catawba players claimed 6-0, 6-0 victories in their matches while the other two won with 6-1, 6-0 scores.
Catawba will host Barton at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Johnson Tennis Center.
