Carson Newman Gets Past Catawba With A 3-0 Win
JEFFERSON CITY, TN -- The Catawba College men’s soccer team fell to the Carson-Newman Eagles 3-0 in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday night at McCowan Field. Catawba falls to 2-4 and 0-2 in the SAC with the loss. The Eagles, who played in last year’s national championship game, claim their first official win of the year after having to nullify their previous games and stand at 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
The game winning goal for the Eagles came in the 57th minute of the game as Catawba goalie, Christian Watts, was given a yellow card which resulted in a Carson-Newman penalty kick. Watts was unable to save the shot by Robert Wagner.
In the next five minutes of play Carson-Newman was able to add the remaining two goals before the Indians could recover. Dominik Gronwald and Sindre Welo were the two scorers during the stretch.
Catawba fought hard against the physical Carson-Newman team as eight different cards were assessed. The Indians received three yellow cards while the Eagles tallied four yellows and a red.
Both keepers finished the night with two saves apiece.
Catawba will return home to Frock Field for their next game as they host SAC rival, Wingate, at 7:30 p.m.
