Volleyball Tripped Up By Mars Hill in Four-Set Loss
MARS HILL, N.C. -- The host Lions topped Catawba in four games to claim the South Atlantic Conference volleyball win on Friday night at Stanford Arena. Mars Hill improves to 3-9 overall and 2-3 in the SAC with the 25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 25-20 victory. The Catawba Indians fall to 3-7 and 1-4.
Bri Howard (Graham, N.C./S. Alamance HS) led the Lady Indians with 10 kills and a pair of blocks. Rachel Gallup (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland HS) followed with nine kills and three blocks, while Ashley Brown (Hendersonville, NC/N. Henderson HS) collected eight kills and two blocks.
Mars Hill was led by Rebecca Butler's 15 kills. Lauren Hochstetler added 14 kills and Mary Kate Griffin had a dozen. All three had double figures in digs, with Butler totaling 16, to post double-doubles.
Abby Pennington (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg HS) led Catawba with four blocks and tallied six kills. Taylor Houser (Mt. Holly, N.C./S. Point/Pfeiffer) picked up 19 digs, while McKenzie Garrison (Newton, N.C./Maiden HS) and Kaytee Frabotta (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II HS) each served a pair of aces.
Catawba will travel to Tusculum on Saturday for a 2 pm match with the Pioneers.
