Indians Fall Short of Comback in Man Down Loss to Newberry
SALISBURY, NC -- The Catawba College men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to the Newberry Wolves Saturday night at Frock Field. The Catawba Indians played most of the game a man down after senior Jason Manaras received two yellow cards in by the 30th minute. Catawba falls to 2-6 on the season and 0-4 in the South Atlantic Conference. Newberry improves to 3-3-1 and 2-0-1, respectively.
The teams finished the first half scoreless despite Newberry having a man advantage for 15 minutes. In the second half the Wolves capitalized and scored two goals. Catawba freshman, Bobby Cardelle, scored his first career goal in the 88th minute to close the gap for the Indians. The goal came off a cross by teammate, Brian Woulfe.
In the final two minutes, Catawba had a few serious opportunities to tie the game and send it to overtime but the shots fell wide.
Catawba returns to action on Wednesday as the men travel to Pfeiffer for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
