Lady Indians Fall to Newberry 3-0
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Newberry posted a 3-0 win over host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action on Saturday at the Frock Soccer Complex. Sabrina Serafin scored twice for the Wolves, who improve to 5-1-1 overall and 3-1 in the SAC. The 10th-ranked Catawba Indians fall for the second straight outing, falling to 6-2 and 2-2.
Newberry jumped on top in the 12th minute with the first of Serafin's goals. The Wolves doubled its lead five minutes before the half when Gabrielle Brodie was able to chip a shot over the Catawba keeper.
Serafin picked up the final tally in the 86th minute as she put home a follow shot from an attempt by Brodie that was initially saved. Newberry out shot Catawba by a 13-3 margin and had six corners to just one for the Lady Indians.
Alexis Carrillo earned the shutout in goal for Newberry. She had to make just one save. Angelica Pawlowski recorded five saves for Catawba on the night.
Catawba will hit the road for its next match on Wednesday, traveling to Limestone for a 7 pm match.
