Lady Indians End Losing Skid With 3-0 Shutout of Coker
SALISBURY, NC -- The Catawba College women’s soccer team ended a three game losing streak with a commanding 3-0 victory over the Coker Cobras Saturday evening at Frock Field. Catawba improves to 7-3 on the season and 3-2 in the South Atlantic Conference with the win. Coker now stands at 2-8 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
In the first half, Catawba held a 14-0 shot advantage with one hitting the back of the net. The goal came in the 34th minute after junior midfielder, Kristina Hoff, lofted the ball across the pitch into the box where senior Karen Presnell was waiting to head the ball in. The goal was Presnell’s fourth this season.
Despite entering half with only a 1-0 lead, the Catawba Lady Indians controlled the entire pace of the match which showed in the second half. In the 63rd minute Catawba would add two goals only 40 seconds apart from each other. The first goal came right after a corner kick by freshman Becky Frost that found the feet of Hannah Cruse.
Shortly after, Jenny Lux connected with Allison Baucom for the Lady Indians final goal.
Catawba finished the night with a 26-2 shot advantage while taking more corners at a 7-1 rate. Catawba keeper, Angelica Pawlowski, recorded a save in the win. Coker’s goalie, Lizz Morris, recorded 11 saves in the match.
Catawba will next travel to Queens University on Wednesday for a 7:30 kickoff.
