Catawba Tallies 8-1 Victory Over Belmont Abbey
SALISBURY, N.C. -- The Catawba College tennis teams closed out their 2014 fall season with wins over Belmont Abbey. The women claimed a 9-0 win while the men won 8-1. Both Catawba tennis teams stand at 3-1 on the season.
In women’s action, the Lady Indians surrendered only one point in all three doubles matches. In singles, Sloan Kessler, Lauren Sledd and Rachel Rudisill each claimed 6-0, 6-0 wins. Caroline Graham tallied the fifth point of the match with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Rachel Leonards.
The Catawba men swept doubles play with scores of 8-4, 8-4 and 8-1, respectively. In singles the men split two three set matches. The first came at the #2 seed between Catawba’s Jack Mordey and the Crusader’s Juan Baez. Baez claimed the win with scores of 7-5, 0-6 and 10-8. Catawba tallied a three set win of their own at the #3 position. Lucas Miller defeated Eduardo Escobar 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.
Catawba’s next match will be in the spring on February 7th as they host Johnson C. Smith.
