Indians Tally First SAC Victory in 2-1 Win Over Queens
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Catawba College men's soccer team claimed a 2-1 victory Wednesday evening over South Atlantic Conference foe, Queens at Dickson Field. The Indians improved to 3-7-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the conference with the win. With the loss, Queens falls to 3-8 overall and 3-3 in the SAC.
The Indians jumped out to an early lead in the first half with a goal by Adam Kurdi. Brian Woulfe assisted on the goal that lifted Catawba to a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Queens responded in the 61st minute after Catawba keeper, Christian Watts, saved a shot by Corey Brown but could not stop the rebounded shot of Philip Makhlouf. Catawba freshman Michael Basnett scored the game winning goal in the 71st minute on a breakaway. The Indians would hold strong for the remaining time to claim their first win of the South Atlantic Conference for the season.
Both keepers recorded three saves on the night as the game was equal in almost every statistical category.
Catawba will travel next on Saturday to take on Tusculum at 3:30 p.m.
