Indians Shutout Concord 2-0
SALISBURY, N.C. -- The Catawba College men’s soccer team claimed a 2-0 victory over the Concord Mountain Lions Wednesday evening at Frock Field. The win marks the fourth of the Catawba Indians season totaling to a 4-8-1 record. Concord falls to 1-10-1 with the loss.
The speed of Catawba’s Michael Basnett wreaked havoc on the Mountain Lions back line. Basnett’s efforts proved fruitful in the 42nd minute as he outran the Concord defense to a loose ball to set up Adam Kurdi in front of the net. The goal was Kurdi’s second on the year with the last coming just two games prior.
Catawba would ice the win with a goal in the 74th minute. Senior Kenny Bonilla challenged three Concord defenders at the top of the box before drilling the shot to the back of the net.
Mountain Lion keeper, Mitchell Thompson, faced 14 shots on the night, saving six. Christian Watts had a much easier night in net for the Indians recording a save on the only shot on goal. The shutout was Watts third of the year.
Catawba returns to South Atlantic conference play Saturday evening to host Brevard at 7:30 p.m.
