SALISBURY, N.C -- Tusculum got 26 kills from Megan Hasse in grabbing a four-set win over host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym. The Pioneers improved to 12-13 overall and 11-6 in the SAC with the 25-23 23-25, 25-18, 25-18 win. The Catawba Indians fall to 6-17 and 4-13.
Hasse hit at 40% in the match and was followed by Rachel Garnett, who had 12 kills, and Laryssa Welch, who posted 11. Sabrina Schleuger had 10 kills and 15 digs, while libero Moriah Jones recorded 24 digs.

Setter Kaytee Frabotta (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II HS) produced 35 assists, six kills, eight digs and three blocks with libero Hadleigh Loy (Haw River, N.C./E. Alamance HS) collecting 21 digs. McKenzie Garrison (Newton, N.C./Maiden HS) served three aces.
The first two sets went down to the final points as each team split 25-23 wins. In the opening set, Catawba trailed 11-9 when Alex Hopper (Madison, N.C./McMichael HS) went down with a knee injury a night after posting a career-best 27 kills. Morant had Catawba tied at 17-all after a kill, but the Pioneers surged on a kill by Welch and two from Hasse to lead 20-17.
Catawba was down 23-20, but a Lanier kill sparked a run that cut the margin to 23-22. Hasse got the Pioneers to set point with a kill and after Frabotta killed a point to keep the set alive, Garnett killed off the set for Tusculum.
The Pioneers held a 17-11 lead and set two and were up 20-15 when Catawba fought back. A kill from Morant and an ace from Garrison sparked an 8-0 run. Garrison added another ace in the run and Lanier had two kills. Hasse had two kills to keep the Pioneers in the set, but Catawba put it away on a kill from Ashley Brown (Hendersonville, N.C./N. Henderson HS).
Tusculum stepped their play up in the final two sets, hitting at 35% and 32%, respectively in sets three and four. Early in the third set a 9-3 run gave the Pioneers a 15-9 lead. The Lady Indians rallied back on two kills from Lanier, an ace from Taylor Houser (Mt. Holly, N.C./S. Point HS/Pfeiffer) and a kill from Bri Howard (Graham, N.C./S. Alamance HS) to make it 17-15.
