Indians Finish 5th and 6th at Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational
NEWTON, N.C. -- The Catawba College cross country teams competed in the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational Saturday morning at Southside Park located in Newton, N.c. The Catawba men placed in fifth place out of six teams while the women finished sixth of seven.
Justin Gragg claimed the overall lead in the men's race as an unattached runner with a time of 26:16.49 and Lenoir-Rhyne took the team win. The Catawba Indians were led by juniors Matthew Jordan-Steele and Nathan Hatley. Jordan-Steele finished in 14th place with a time of 28:15 with Hatley trailing eight seconds behind in 15th position.
In the women's race, Appalachian State finished as the top team behind Maria Stickley who claimed the overall win. Stickley's run finished in 19:03.26. Erica Boles was the highest finishing Catawba runner with a 25th place time of 21:08.94. Freshman Jennifer Lomax finished in a time of 21:21 as the next best runner for Catawba in 30th place.
Catawba will compete next at the South Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday November 8th. The Indians will host the meet at the Salisbury Community Park.
