Two Overtimes Not Enough To Separate 1-1 Match with LMU
SALISBURY, N.C. -- The Catawba College women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 stalemate with Lincoln Memorial Saturday night in South Atlantic Conference action at Frock Field. The Catawba Lady Indians now stand at 10-5-1 on the season and 5-4-1 in the SAC while Lincoln Memorial moves to 9-2-2 and 7-1-2 respectively.
Lincoln Memorial struck first in the 37th minute of the match. Fernanda Miaci had a one-on-one opportunity against Catawba keeper, Bethany Davis, from the left side of the box. Miaci pushed the ball under the outstretched arm of a sliding Davis.
Catawba responded in the second half when Karen Presnell drove in a low cross to the front of the net. Presnell's kick met the foot of freshman Kiersten Peck who one-timed the shot to the back of the net.
Davis finished the game with six saves in the match while Kayla Stephens recorded five saves of her own for the Railsplitters. Lincoln Memorial held a 13-10 shot advantage in the match.
Catawba returns to Frock Field on Tuesday to host nearby Pfeiffer. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a pre-game ceremony to honor this year's seniors.
