Indians Tally 1-0 Upset Over LMU on Senior Night
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Sophomore Declan Stimson recorded his first goal of the season to lift the Catawba men's soccer team to a 1-0 upset over Lincoln Memorial Saturday night at Frock Field. The win lifts the Indians to 5-9-2 overall and 2-6-2 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Railsplitters fall to 7-4-3 and 4-3-3 in conference.
Stimson's goal came in the 65th minute of the match right after a Lincoln Memorial foul and yellow card. The foul occurred just behind the midfield line where Catawba senior Heitor Vinci lined up to kick the long ball. Vinci's kick sailed the remaining length of the field to right in front of the net. Stimson charged to the ball and leaped to redirect the ball past the Railsplitter goalie, Marcel Barwanietz.
Barwanietz finished the night with five saves despite the loss. Catawba's Christian Watts recorded four saves of his own in the shutout.
Catawba will close its season on Friday, October 31st against Mars Hill.
