Lacrosse drops Deep South openerGAFFNEY, SC – Limestone, the reigning NCAA Division II national champion, defeated visiting Catawba 16-5 as the teams opened Deep South Conference play on Wednesday afternoon at ‘THE ROCK”. The third-ranked Saints, now 2-1 overall, scored the first nine goals and out-shot the Indians 27-9 over the first two quarters in building a 12-2 halftime lead. Catawba falls to 1-3. Saints junior attack Jason Randolph (Arnold, MD) scored the initial goal only eighteen seconds into the contest on an assist from Nick DeLonga (Silver Spring, MD). Randolph would go on to score Limestone’s next two goals in route to his game high five on the day. DeLonga, meanwhile, added another assist and the face-off specialist won 16-of-21 against the Tribe. The Saints as a team won 18-of-24 face-offs. In all, eight different Limestone players scored goals with David Wooster (Annapolis, MD) scoring 3 goals and adding a pair of assists, while Devan Spilker (Glen Burnie, MD) scored twice and dished out a game high four assists. Limestone senior goalie Matt Malloy (Crofton, MD) stopped 11 Catawba shots before exiting the game early in the fourth quarter. Catawba got a pair of goals from freshman Matt Riley (Baltimore, MD), while Josh Maphis (Ocean City, NJ) added a goal and two assists. Limestone converted on 2-of-5 extra man situations while holding Catawba to 1-of-5. The Saints failed to yield a goal during a two-man down scenario early in the fourth quarter.
