Davis' 12 Saves Ensure 0-0 Tie With Pfeiffer
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Junior goalkeeper Bethany Davis stood on her head Tuesday night to record 12 saves and secure a shutout tie for the Catawba College women’s soccer team against Pfeiffer University at Frock Field. Both teams entered the match with equal records of 10-5-1 and the match did nothing to separate the two after 110 minutes of play.
Pfeiffer held a 18-11 shot advantage on the night with a 12-5 shot on goal differential. The Lady Indians also had to battle against fouls with a 25-12 disadvantage. One penalty came in the 79th minute when Catawba was called for a handball in the penalty box. Pfeiffer was awarded a penalty kick which was taken by Kaitlin Sampson. The ensuing kick was stopped by a diving Davis.
Pfeiffer’s Aliayah Jackson had a couple chances to score but Davis was able to stifle every attempt.
Catawba’s Karen Presnell created three quality chances of her own in the match with each on being stopped by Pfeiffer keeper Blakeney Blair.
The Lady Indians will close out their regular season on Friday as they travel to Mars Hill. The match is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
