Women Finish Second, Men Third at Quad Meet
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Catawba's women finished second, while the men placed third at the Quad Swim Meet which finished up Saturday afternoon at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center. Wingate won both the men's and women's events. Limestone was second in the men's meet and third in the women's. Gardner-Webb finished fourth and Lenoir-Rhyne fifth in both men's and women's action.
Catawba posted wins in the three events on Saturday. Dominik Brus (Krakow, POLAND/Loms Krakow) picked up his second win of the meet as he claimed first in the 100 back (51.97). Toomas Goutt (Saint Witz, FRANCE/de Vinci) also got a win for the men in the 200 free with a time of 1:43.42. In women's action, Nadine Brockmann (Hamburg, GERMANY/Ossietzsky) finished first in the 200 free in a time of 1:55.71.
The time Brockmann posted in the 200 free equaled the 10th best time in school history. Amy Cujas (Mocksville, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) equaled the fifth fastest 50 free swim as she placed fifth with a time of 24.95. Another top 10 all-time swim was posted by Anna Barnes (Suwanee, Ga./N. Gwinett HS/Darton St.), who was second in the 1000 free with a time of 10:55.65.
Andrew McCollister (Rockwell, N.C./Salisbury HS) posted a third-pace finish in the men's 1000 free (10:01.08) and the 400 IM (4:14.85), while Jevgenij Gamper (Vilnius, LITHUANIA/Kachialov) finished fourth in the 200 breast (2:09.51) and fourth in the 50 free (21.73). Goutt was fifth in the 50 free (21.99) and Finn Furstenwerth (Hamburg, GERMANY/Gymnasium Farmsen) fourth in the 400 IM (4:21.67).
Next up for the swim teams will be the Wingate Invite which will be held Nov. 21-23 also at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center.
