Bully Scores 22 In Season Opening Win Over Mount Olive
CHAROLOTTE, N.C. -- Senior Chloe Bully dropped 22 points to lead the Catawba College women’s basketball team to a 75-65 win over Mount Olive to open their 2014-15 campaign Friday Night at Curry Arena. The game was the season opener for both teams.
Mount Olive opened with a 12-0 run to start the first five minutes of the game. Catawba used the rest of the half to cut the deficit to three points.
In the second half the teams leveled out resulting in eight ties for the night. With 7:16 left on the clock Janna Dixon hit a jumper that broke a 57 point tie and started a run for Catawba. The Lady Indians run would go into the final media timeout on an 11-4 run.
Catawba would make some of their remaining free throws to clinch the win. On the night Catawba finished going 20-39 from the charity stripe while Mount Olive made four of their seven attempts.
Bully’s added six rebounds to go along with her 22 points on the night. Khadijah Brown contributed 16 points and nine boards of her own for Catawba. Dixon was the third member of the Lady Indians to reach double-digit scoring with 11.
For Mount Olive, the Trojans were led by Ni’ya Styles who tallied 21 points and three steals. Ty Wallace earned a double-double with 11 points and just as many rebounds.
Catawba held a higher shooting percentage going 24-for-57 (42.1%) while the Trojans shot 38.6% making 27-of-70. Both teams went 7-for-23 from three point range.
Catawba will play Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they take on Barton. The game will be the second day of the Queens’ Invitational held at Curry Arena.
