Taylor Tosses In 11 Points in Men's Basketball Exhibition Loss to Radford
RADFORD, Va. -- Catawba dropped an 88-52 decision to host Radford in a men's basketball exhibition game on Sunday afternoon at the Dedmon Center. Freshman Jameel Taylor (Anderson, S.C./Hannah HS) topped the Catawba scorers with 11 points.
Radford jumped out quickly, scoring the first seven points and led 20-5 after six minutes of action. Catawba clawed back, using a 14-5 run to trim the margin to 25-19 after a Taylor three-pointer at the 7:30 mark. The Highlanders stretched the lead back out to 13 before Catawba closed the gap to 32-27 on a three-pointer from Dominique Henderson (Charlotte, N.C./Mallard Creek HS).
Radford outscored Catawba 9-2 over the final three minutes to lead 41-29 at the break. The Highlanders stormed out of the gate in the second half, taking a 58-37 lead after back-to-back three-pointers from R.J. Price just over five minutes into the final session.
The Indians couldn't keep up with hot-shooting Radford in the second half. The Highlanders canned 61% (19-of-31) in the half and finished at 48% for the game. Catawba, playing for the second straight day, shot just 33% and a mere 29% in the final half.
Taylor was the only Indians in double figures. Jerrin Morrison (Charlotte, N.C./E. Mecklenburg HS) and Reggie Perkins (Greensboro, N.C./Phillips Exeter) each had eight. Morrison grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. KJ Arrington (Newport News, Va./Denbigh HS/Henry CC) and Rakeen Brown (Hampton, Va./Bethel HS/Delaware St.) put home seven points with Troy Warren (Mooresville, N.C./Lake Norman HS) pulling down seven rebounds.
Javonte Green scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Radford. Rashun Davis added 13 points with four assists and four steals. Price posted 11 points and hit on three three-pointers. The Highlanders committed eight turnovers, half as many as Catawba's 16.
Catawba jumps back into South Atlantic Conference action on Tuesday, hosting Newberry at 8 p.m.
