SALISBURY, N.C. -- Newberry got 25 points from Samantha Creed (Montmorency, Vic, Australia) and pulled out a 72-64 road win over Catawba in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action on Tuesday night at Goodman Gym.  The Wolves, who are ranked 11th in the new D2SIDA national poll, improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the SAC.  The Catawba Indians fall to 3-2 and 1-2.

Forsyth HS) to close the gap to 25-15 with 7:39 to go in the half.  The Wolves held a 28-19 edge, but did not score over the final 5:19 of the first half as Catawba clawed within a point at the break.

Newberry responded as Haylee Lepaio (Bathurst, Australia) hit a jumper followed by back-to-back three’s by Creed and Emily Perry (Nambour, Australia) as the Wolves went up 11 with 1:58 remaining.  Catawba forced a pair of turnovers late to help cut a 10-point deficit to four with 21 seconds to play, but Newberry went 4-of-4 at the line from there to close the game out.
