Three Commit to Baseball Program in Early Signing Period

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba College baseball coach Jim Gantt has announced three early signings for the 2016 season.  The trio joining the team next year are Trevor Rhyne (Charlotte, N.C.), Zach Queen (Charlotte, N.C.) and Jeremy Simpson (Cleveland, N.C.).

Rhyne is a 6-2, 175 first baseman and outfielder from Providence High School.  He was an all-conference performer last season with the Panthers, hitting .420 with 20 RBI and eight stolen bases.

Queens, from Lake Norman Charter, is a 6-0, 190 catcher.   A two-year captain, he helped the Knights to the third round of the state playoffs. Over 43 varsity games, he has hit .280 with 14 RBI.

Simpson is a 5-11, 155 shortstop from West Rowan High School.  He hit .262 as a junior with three doubles and 13 runs scored.  He has made just four errors over 39 varsity games.
