Rogers Returns to Lead Win Over Brevard
SALISBURY, N.C. -- The Catawba College women’s basketball team handedly blew away the Brevard College Tornados 80-61 in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon in Goodman Gymnasium. The Indians notched their fourth conference win of the season to stand at 4-4 in the conference and 7-6 overall. Brevard falls to 2-9 overall and 1-7 in conference.
The Catawba Lady Indians were led by Terri Rogers who scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in her first game back after an injury. Jada Huntley aided in the charge, just missing a double-double by tallying 15 points and nine rebounds.
On the other side of the ball Brevard’s Katie Williams and Madison Lenox combined for a total of five three pointers and 35 of the teams points in the loss. As a team Brevard went 7-for-18 from behind the arc. Williams finished 3-for-5 in three pointers for a total of 19 points while Lenox went 2-of-6 from deep and 16 points.
Catawba started off the game scoring the first basket by Chloe Bully with a 19:18 remaining on the clock. Catawba would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game.
Catawba dominated on the boards holding a 44-27 advantage in rebounding. The Lady Indians also outshot Brevard going 36-for-65 (55.4%) compared21-for-59 (35.6%). Brevard did have an advantage from the free throw line shooting 12-of-16 (75.0%) while Catawba shot 3-for-8 (37.5%).
Catawba hopes to use this momentum as they stay home Wednesday to host South Atlantic Conference foe, Coker. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
