Baseball falls twice at Anderson

ANDERSON, SC -- Catawba dropped both ends of a doubleheader to host and 30th-ranked Anderson on Tuesday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium. The Trojans improve to 21-8 with the wins, while Catawba falls to 19-14. Anderson used a four-run fifth inning to grab an 8-3 lead in the opener. Jared Taylor capped the inning with a two-run single. Spence Southard (Greensboro, NC) put Catawba on top in the first with a RBI double, but the Trojans scored a run in their first and added two runs in the second on a run-scoring single by Taylor and an infield hit by Daniel Kitchens. Blair Reynolds (King, NC) homered for Catawba in the third, but Anderson answered with a RBI triple by Joe Whitham. The Indians got a run in the fourth on a wild pitch before the big Anderson fifth inning. In the sixth, Catawba loaded the bases with no outs, but could only score twice. One run scored on a double play ground out, while the last was plated on a single by Chad Hill (Bennett, NC). Nick Lefko (Faith, NC) led Catawba with two hits and scored twice in the opener. Taylor had three his and three RBI for Anderson. The Tribe built a 7-3 lead in the second game, but Anderson rallied for the win on Whitham’s single with no outs in the seventh. Matt Baker (Charlotte, NC) had a RBI single in the first for Catawba, but Anderson struck for two in its first to take the lead. Reynolds tied the score in the second with a RBI single and Chris Foy (South Mills, NC) put the Tribe on top with a single in the third. A David Hughes (Apex, NC) single in the fourth put Catawba on top 4-2 and the Indians struck for three in the fifth. Reynolds doubled home two in the fifth and later scored on a passed ball. The Trojans would strike back with three in its fifth and tied the game in the sixth on a sacrifice fly. In the seventh, F.A.
