Three Lady Indians Score 20+ in Win Over Tusculum
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Three Catawba College women's basketball players recorded over 20 points each to lift the Lady Indians to a 89-79 victory over visiting Tusculum College in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym. With the win the Lady Indians improve to 13-8 on the season and 10-6 in the conference. Tusculum falls to 5-14 and 5-11, respectfully.
Tusculum was the first to draw blood on the day with a basket 27 seconds into the game. Catawba responded 12 seconds later with a Jada Huntley three to pull ahead. The Lady Indians never surrendered the lead for the remainder of the game.
Bri Johnson and Terri Rogers each recorded 24 points on the day while Zhaquondalee Greer tossed in 20 points of her own. All three came close to double digit rebounds with Johnson and Greer grabbing nine and Rogers tallying eight. Jada Huntley rounded out the tribe’s double figure scorers with 11 points of her own.
Senior Chloe Bully created chaos for the Tusculum defense, dishing seven of the Indians 19 assists.
On the other side of the ball, the Pioneers were led by Shynese Whitener who scored 23 points and recorded six rebounds. Kristen McMillion was a rebound away from a double-double with 12 points and nine boards.
Catawba finished the day shooting 44.8% from the field going 30-for-67. The Indians also went 8-for-22 from three point range and 21-of-29 from the charity stripe.
Tusculum shot 29-of-66 (43.9%) and 2-for-12 from behind the arc. The Pioneers added 19-of-24 from the free throw line.
Catawba held a 48-36 rebounding advantage, as well as a 19-10 assist advantage. Turnovers were the achilles heel for the Lady Indians committing 20 turnovers and only forcing 14 for Tusculum.
