Men's Lacrosse Drops 15-6 Decision to Belmont Abbey
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey claimed a 15-6 win over host Catawba in men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Crusaders improve to 2-0, while the Catawba Indians fall to 0-2.
Joey McGinley scored four goals and handed out three assists to lead Belmont Abbey. Brendan McGovern tallied three goals with Riley Quinlan putting in two goals with four assists. Harley Whitham collected 12 saves in goal for the Crusaders.
Freshman Dalton Cook (St. Augustine, Fla./Bartram Trail HS) had two goals and an assist for the Indians. Connor Kennedy (Weddington, N.C./Weddington HS/Tampa) added a goal and an assist. Connor Eakes (Broomfield, Colo./Broomfield HS) won 13-of-16 face-offs for the Indians and grabbed nine ground balls.
Adam Hebert (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic HS) put Catawba on top with a goal just a minute into the game. The Crusaders answered with four straight tallies and took a 6-2 lead at the half.
McGinley stretched the Belmont Abbey lead to 11-3 early in the fourth quarter before the Indians stuck in three of the next four goals to make it 12-6. The Crusaders closed it out with three goals over the final seven minutes.
Catawba held a 36-32 edge in shots, but put just 19 on target. The Crusaders had 24 of its shots on goal. The Indians also had seven more turnovers.
Catawba is scheduled to host Rollins on Monday at 4 p.m.
