Baseball falls to Methodist

SALISBURY, NC Methodist College defeated host Catawba 8-3 in baseball action on Thursday afternoon at Newman Park. The Monarchs improve to 18-5, while Catawba falls to 19-15. The teams combined to use 14 pitchers in the non-conference tilt. Each team scored a run in the opening inning. Methodist got a two-out single from Dan Glies (Pittsburgh, PA) for its run, while the Indians scored on a Spence Southard (Greensboro, NC) RBI single. The Monarchs would do the rest of their damage in two innings. Glies hit a three-run homer in the third, while Kyle Johnson (Fayetteville, NC) hit a two-run shot in a four-run seventh. Catawba had closed a 4-1 deficit in the sixth to 4-3 on a two-run homer by Matt Baker (Charlotte, NC), but the Monarchs answered with the big seventh inning. Glies totaled five RBI on three hits for Methodist, while Jesus Adames (Concord, NC) also enjoyed a 3-for-4 day. Catawba managed just six hits for the game. #####
