Kennedy Scores Three Goals In Loss At Mars Hill
MARS HILL, N.C. -- Mars Hill claimed a 15-7 win over visiting Catawba in South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action on Sunday afternoon at Meares Stadium. The game was originally scheduled at Catawba, but was moved due to wet playing conditions. The Lions improve to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 1-3 and 0-1.
The teams traded goals over the first quarter and Catawba led 6-3 after scoring the opening three goals of the second. It was all Mars Hill from there. The Lions went on a four-goal run to end the half and added five unanswered goals in the third to lead 12-6.
Anthony Malcom, Jimmy McBride and Saxon Weil keyed the Lion run, each posting three goals in an eventual 10-0 spurt. Malcom also assisted on two goals in the run. Malcom finished with five goals and two assists. McBride had three goals and added four helpers. Ryan Sage put in four goals with two assists for the hosts.
Connor Kennedy (Weddington, N.C./Weddington HS/Tampa) tallied three goals for Catawba. Daniel Rew (Forest Hill, Md./Bel Air HS) won 11-of-14 face-offs, while Lincoln Anderson (Orlando, Fla./Olympia HS) caused three turnovers and collected five ground balls.
Catawba next travels to North Greenville on Wednesday for a 4 pm contest.
