Brooks Grabs SAC Baseball Pitcher Of The Week Honors
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) -- Catawba’s Craig Brooks was named the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week, while Lincoln Memorial’s Logan Augustine was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, for games played Feb. 23-Mar. 1. It was announced by the league on Tuesday.
Brooks, a senior from Monroe, N.C., posted an ERA of 1.20 and two wins in a pair of starts for the Catawba Indians last week. He got his week started with a no-hitter in a seven inning win vs. Brevard on Feb. 23. He struck out seven Tornado hitters and allowed just three walks. At Newberry on Feb. 28, Brooks struck out eight Wolves batters and gave up only three hits, two earned runs and a walk. The honor is his first Pitcher of the Week nod this season for the Parkwood High School product.
Augustine, a freshman from Urbandale, Iowa, batted .471 with eight hits and four RBI to lead the Railsplitters to a 5-0 record last week, including a series sweep over League foe and then ranked No. 23 Lenoir-Rhyne. He posted multiple hits in three of his five games and highlighted his week with three hits, two RBI and a stolen base to open the Lenoir-Rhyne series on Feb. 28. Augustine finished the five-game span with an on-base percentage of .571 and two stolen bases. In the field, he notched 10 putouts on 10 chances from his spot in the outfield. The award is his first Player of the Week selection this season.
