Tysinger Selected As SAC Softball Pitcher Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) -- Catawba’s Carley Tysinger was named the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week, while Carson-Newman’s Bre Lockett was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week, for games played Feb. 23-Mar. 1. The league announced the awards on Tuesday.
Tysinger, a junior from Lexington, N.C. posted 41 strikeouts in three complete-game wins last week. She got her week started with 16 strikeouts in a win over Flagler on Feb. 27 and followed with 13 strikeouts in Catawba’s win over Columbus State on Feb. 28. Tysinger then struck out 12 Bellarmine hitters on Mar. 1 to close out her week. She finished the three-game span with an ERA of just 1.33 in 21 innings pitched. The award is her first Pitcher of the Week selection this season.
Lockett, a junior from Fontana, Calif., batted .875 with seven hits and two RBI to lead the Eagles to a 3-0 record last week. She posted multiple hits in all three games she played in, including a 3-for-3 performance with a double and a triple in the win over Lees-McRae on Feb. 27. She finished the three-game span with three doubles, two triples and a slugging percentage of 1.750. The award is her second Player of the Week plaudit this season.
