BREVARD, N.C. -- Brevard overcame a 6-0 deficit after one quarter and topped visiting Catawba 14-11 in South Atlantic Conference men’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Brevard Memorial Stadium.  The Tornados improve to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 2-4 and 0-2.

Catawba jumped out quickly on goals from Connor Kennedy (Weddington, N.C./Weddington HS/Tampa), Dalton Cook (St. Augustine, Fla./Bartram Trail HS) and Daniel Rew (Forest Hill, Md./Bel Air HS) to lead 3-0 after five minutes.  The Indians would go on to build a 6-0 lead after the first 15 minutes.

Brevard sliced the lead in half by the break the stuck home seven unanswered goals in the third quarter to go up 10-6.  When Sam Postma added two goals to start the fourth, it gave the Tornados a 12-goal run.  Cook finally ended the Indian drought and after Kennedy tallied twice in less than a minute, Catawba had crept within 12-10 with 4:54 remaining.

Adam Wiedemann got a goal for Brevard at the 3:21 mark to stop Catawba’s momentum and a goal in the final minute from Matthew Dropuljic put the hosts up by four.

Catawba held a massive 62-28 edge in shots and put 39 on goal.  Andy Reilly collected 28 saves in the pipes for the Tornados.  Postma and Wiedemann each scored three goals for Brevard.  Ryan Taylor had two goals and two assists.

Kennedy led Catawba with four goals and handed out an assist.  Cook tallied a pair of goals.  Catawba won 22-of-28 face-offs.  Rew went 11-of-15 and Connor Eakes (Broomfield, Colo./Broomfield HS) won 11-of-13 tries and collected 10 ground balls.

Catawba is scheduled to host Lincoln Memorial next Saturday at 2 p.m.
