Women's Basketball Gets At-Large Bid To NCAA II Tournament
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Catawba College was one of 42 at-large selection to the 2015 NCAA II Women's Basketball Championships. The Catawba Indians will be the eighth seed in the upcoming Southeast Regional Tournament which will be held at Limestone College.
Catawba (18-11) returns to regional play for the first time since 2012. The Lady Indians were the eighth seed that season and lost a very tight game 71-69 against host USC Aiken. It will be Catawba's fifth regional appearance and the school is still looking for its initial win.
Limestone (30-1) claimed the top seed in the regional. The Saints are coming off the Conference Carolinas Championship. Peach Belt Champion Columbus State (30-1) is the #2-seed and will face Carson-Newman (19-10) in the first round on Friday.
Rounding out the first round match-ups will see third-seeded Anderson (25-4) facing a rematch of the South Atlantic Conference tourney title game with Newberry (21-10). Newberry just upset Anderson on Sunday. Fourth-seeded Lander (23-6) will go up against Wingate (21-9) in the other first round game.
First round winners will advance to Saturday's semifinals with the regional championship game set for Monday, March 16. All games will be held at Limestone. Game times and more details on the tournament will be released tomorrow.
