Indians Claim 7-2 Win Over West Chester

TAMPA, FLA. -- The Catawba College men’s tennis team claimed a 7-2 victory over West Chester University in the fourth match of a spring break trip on the campus of the University of South Florida.  With the win the Catawba Indians improve to 8-5 on the season and 3-1 for the trip.  West Chester falls to 3-4 on the season.

Catawba swept doubles action to open up the day.  Pierce Hover gave Catawba its fourth point with a 6-3, 6-0 win at #1 singles.  At #2 singles, Catawba’s Jack Mordey claimed the first set before falling 6-4 and 11-9 to Charlie Rushing.  Lucas Miller secured the match for the Indians with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Lars Kristiansen at the #3 flight. 

Mitchell McDonald and Iago Montero Nunez also claimed wins for Catawba.  McDonald won at #5 singles and Nunez winning at #6.

Catawba will play their final match of the week on Thursday as the Indians take on Daemen (NY).  The match is scheduled for 9:00 am.  Daemen previously suffered an 8-1 loss to West Chester on Monday.
