Four homers not enough as Baseball falls at St. Andrews 12-5LAURINBURG, N.C. - A windy afternoon at Clark Field proved to be a home run derby through four and a half innings, but St. Andrews scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth and went on to defeat Catawba College 12-5 in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday afternoon. St. Andrews improves to 19-17, while Catawba falls to 21-17. Demetrius Jordan started the home run fest for St. Andrews with a one-out blast in the bottom of the first. Catawba's Matt Baker cracked a leadoff home run in the second inning, and a two-out, two-run homer by Spence Southard gave the Indians a 3-1 lead in the top of the third. Catawba would expand the margin to 4-2 in the top of the fourth with a solo shot by Nick Lefko, but St. Andrews would take a one-run lead in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by Brandon Taylor and a two-run blast by Casey Clary. The Indians scored their final run of the game when Blair Reynolds smacked a two-out homer to even the score at 5-5 in the top of the fifth, but the Knights quickly ended the standoff in the bottom of the inning on a two-run double by Jason Catlin. Clary ripped an RBI single to drive in the third run of the inning. St. Andrews plated two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings. Brad Smith (1-3) picked up the win for St. Andrews in relief. Smith allowed four hits and no runs in four and a third innings of work. Starter Paul Zehr gave up seven hits and all five runs. The Indians used six pitchers in the outing. Reliever Scott Dunning (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing three hits and three runs in one inning. Starter Brian Hatley scattered six hits over three innings and gave up five runs. Casey Clary went 4-for-5 with five RBI to lead the Knights. Jordan was 2-for-3 with four runs scored and one RBI. Catlin and Brandon Lewis tallied two doubles and two RBI apiece. Taylor also had two hits. Catawba's Southard went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a double. Lefko was 2-for-4, and Chad Hill was 2-for-5. #####
