Softball Drops Two One-Run Games At Carson-Newman
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Carson-Newman picked up a pair of wins over visiting Catawba in South Atlantic Conference softball action on Saturday afternoon at The Vick. The Lady Eagles improve to 20-6 overall and 5-1 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 10-10 and 0-4.
Neither team could break through on the scoreboard in regulation of the opener as Catawba's Caroline Turner (Kenly, N.C./N. Johnston HS) and Lady Eagle Sarah Howard put up zeros over seven frames. In the top of the eighth, the Lady Indians had two on with no outs, but Howard got an out a third on a sacrifice attempt then two more groundouts to end the frame.
Carley Tysinger (Lexington, N.C./C. Davidson HS) took over for Turner in the bottom half of the eighth and Cassie Lyons went to third on a wild pitch. Talisa Fiame followed with a sacrifice fly to give C-N the win. Howard (3-1) picked up the victory with eight innings of shutout ball, allowing only two hits with five walks and three strikeouts.

Down a run to start the third, the Lady Indians pushed across six runs with two outs to grab the lead. Taylor Adams (Smithfield, N.C./N. Johnston HS) plated the tying run by drawing a bases loaded walk. Stanly HS) base hit got the final run of the inning home.
