Tennis Falls to Carson-Newman and Tusculum Over Weekend
SALISBURY, N.C. -- The Catawba College men's and women's tennis teams each suffered a pair of losses to Carson-Newman and Tusculum over the weekend in South Atlantic Conference action at the Johnson Tennis Center. On Friday, the Lady Indians fell 4-5 to Carson-Newman before falling 0-9 to Tusculum on Saturday. Catawba's men fell 2-7 to the Carson Newman Eagles and 1-8 to the Pioneers of Tusculum. With the losses the Catawba Lady Indians now stand at 8-9 on the year and 0-6 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Catawba men fall to 11-7 overall and 2-4 in conference.
In women's action, Liz Renteria, Lauren Sledd and Rachel Rudisill each picked up wins in singles play against Carson Newman. Sledd, along with Maddy Henderson claimed a doubles victory at the #2 flight. Kristen Rocko and Sloan Kessler each forced a third set against the Lady Eagles but were unable to get the tiebreaker.
On the men's side the Indians claimed three points on the weekend. The first came in doubles action as the duo of Pierce Hoover and Jack Mordey claimed a win at the #1 position against Carson-Newman. In the same match Michael Patch recorded a three set victory at #4. Catawba's lone point against Tusculum came in doubles action as #2 pair of Lucas Miller and Mitchell McDonald tallied an 8-5 win.
Catawba returns to the courts on Wednesday as the travel to Lincoln Memorial. The match is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
