Women's Lacrosse Falls To Colorado Mesa
SALISBURY, N.C. – Colorado Mesa got five goals each from Jenny Lange and Ashley Eickhoff in a 23-10 win over host Catawba in women’s lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Mavericks up their record to 5-3, while the Catawba Indians fall to 5-5.
Meredith Jones (Barnesville, Md./St. John’s Catholic HS) and Alyssa Corace (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac HS) scored goals in the opening four minutes to give Catawba a quick 2-0 lead. The Mavericks answered with four goals over a three minute span to lead 4-2 at the 21:50 mark of the half.
Catawba tied the game on Corace’s goal with 18:02 left, but a three-goal run by the Mavericks put the guests up for good at 7-4. The Lady Indians got within 7-6 on a goal from Kirstyn Kruse (Sagamore Beach, Mass./Williston Northampton Prep), but Colorado Mesa put home eight of the final nine goals over the last 10 minutes of the half to lead 15-7 at the break.
Corace led Catawba with four goals. Jones and Caroline Beggs (St. Johns, Fla./Bartram Trail HS) each had two goals and had an assist.
Lange and Eickhoff both added an assist to their five goals. Kayla Lyall and Jessica Cook each had four goals and two helpers. Cook recorded nine draw controls and grabbed four ground balls.
The Mavericks outshot Catawba 44-18 and won 23 of the 34 draw controls.
Catawba returns to league action on Saturday, hosting Coker at 3 p.m.
