Men's Lacrosse Drops 8-5 Decision To Coker
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Coker overcame an early deficit and grabbed an 8-5 victory over host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday night at Shuford Stadium. The Cobras improve to 7-3 overall and 5-1 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 3-8 and 1-6.
Josh Smith scored four goals to pace the Cobras. Shane Wilson had a pair of goals and Rylee Marsh handed out two assists. Tim Ryan collected 10 saves.
Ty Sellers (St. Johns, Fla./Bartram Trail HS) and Zach LaFavre (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth HS) each scored twice for Catawba. Connor Eakes (Broomfield, Colo./Broomfield HS) won 6-of-7 face-offs, while Lincoln Anderson (Orlando, Fla./Olympia HS) had five ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.
The Indians jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Sellers and Jon Williams (Hillsborough, N.C./Northern HS). LaFavre's first goal with just seven seconds left gave Catawba a 3-1 edge after a quarter. Smith and Wilson scored the only two goals of the second quarter as Coker pulled even by the half.
Coker scored a man-up goal by Mike Mariello two minutes into the second half to give the Cobras their first lead. Sellers took a feed from LaFavre at the 11:34 mark to tie the game, but Wilson tallied less than a minute later to start a three-goal run for Coker that proved to be the difference.
Catawba will return to action on April 8, hosting Pfeiffer at 7 p.m.
