Brooks Grabs SAC Baseball Pitcher Of The Week Honors
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) -- Catawba’s Craig Brooks was named the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week, while Brandan Sheridan, of Newberry, was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, for games played March 23-29. It was announced by the league on Tuesday.
Brooks, a senior from Monroe, N.C., posted a pair of one-hitters in 10 innings of shutout ball. At No. 26 Winston-Salem State on March 25, Brooks struck out 10 of the 12 hitters he faced as he picked up the win four innings of work. Four days later at Coker, he fanned a career-best 14 batters in six innings pitched to notch his second win of the week. Brooks did not allow a walk in 10 innings pitched, to go along with an opponent batting average of just .067. The award is his second Pitcher of the Week selection this season.
Sheridan, a senior from Jacksonville, Fla., batted .545 with 12 hits, four doubles, nine RBI and a home run to lead the Wolves to a 4-1 record last week. He posted multiple hits in four of the five games he played in, including a pair of three-hit games and one four-hit contest. In the double-header vs. Wingate on March 28, Sheridan notched seven hits in nine trips to the plate. He also added a pair of stolen bases it the five-game span. The award is his first Player of the Week plaudit this season.
