SALISBURY, N.C. -- Florida Tech knocked off host Catawba 19-17 in a back-and-forth women's lacrosse game on Saturday afternoon at Shuford Stadium.  The Panthers improve to 6-5, while the Catawba Indians fall to 7-7.

Catawba trailed by as many as four goals in the second half and by three several times before finally tying the game with 4:01 on a goal from Alyssa Corace (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac HS).  The Panthers retook the lead with 2:27 remaining on a goal from Mary Gormley and after a Catawba turnover were able to run most of the final minute and half with the Lady Indians down a player with a penalty.  Caroline Dunleavy iced the game on a goal with eight seconds left.

The game saw freshman Caroline Beggs (St. Johns, Fla./Bartram Trail HS) set a new Catawba record for goals in a season.  Her record 38th goal in the first half tied the game at 7-7.  She now has 39 on the year.

The Lady Indians led only once, that came early at 3-2 following a goal from Meredith Jones (Barnesville, Md./St. John's Catholic HS).  Florida Tech scored the next three goals to lead 5-3.  Catawba tied the game twice in the final 10 minutes of the half before the Panthers too an 8-7 lead to the break on Sara Grenier's goal at the 2:14 mark.

Florida Tech scored four of the first five goals in the second half to go up 12-8.  Catawba found itself behind the entire second half until a three-goal run tied it on Corace's goal, capping a rally from a 15-11 deficit.

Megan Shortt (Kernersville, N.C./E. Forsyth HS) led Catawba with her second-straight four goal game.  Jones, Beggs and Corace all had three goals with Jones handing out two assists.

Grenier tallied five goals for the Panthers.  Allie Modica scored five and Dunleavy produced three goals and one assist.  Seven of the Panther goals came on free-position shots.

The Lady Indians travel to Young Harris on Tuesday in a game postponed from earlier this season.  The teams are set to start at 4 p.m.
