SALISBURY, N.C. -- Host Catawba stunned NCAA 11th-ranked Pfeiffer with a 12-11 overtime win in men's lacrosse action on Wednesday night at Shuford Stadium.  Conner Kennedy (Weddington, N.C./Weddington HS/Tampa) netted the winner just 22 seconds into overtime as the Catawba Indians improve to 4-8 and snap a four-game losing streak.  The Falcons drop to 9-3.

It marked the second straight year the teams had played to overtime and this year it was Catawba that came away with the victory.  After a Pfeiffer turnover late in the fourth quarter, the Falcons were whistled for a penalty with 28 seconds left.  The Indians could not get off a scoring chance, but kept control and took possession to start overtime.  Dalton Cook (St. Augustine, Fla./Bartram Trail HS) fed Kennedy in front of the goal for the winner.

Catawba took control in the second quarter.  Tied 3-3 after the first period, the Indians scored five goals to lead 8-3 with just over six minutes left before the half.  Pfeiffer was able to cash in after a pair of Catawba turnovers to make it 8-5 at the break.

Both teams scored twice in the third quarter, but the Falcons stormed back to open the fourth.  Pfeiffer scored three times in the first five minutes to pull even at 10-10 on a goal from Cole Sheen.  The Falcons took their first lead since it was 1-0 when Matt Michaeli tallied on an assist from Sheen at the 7:10 mark.  Cook got the tying goal for the Indians with 2:05 remaining in regulation then assisted on the winner.

Pfeiffer held a 45-32 edge in shots, but never got a possession in overtime.  The Indians dominated the face-offs, winning 21-of-26.  Daniel Rew (Forest Hill, Md./Bel Air HS) went 11-of-14 with Connor Eakes (Broomfield, Colo./Broomfield HS) going 10-for-12.  Catawba had 19 turnovers to just five for the Falcons, but Pfeiffer made the key mistake in the final minute of regulation to give the Indians their chance.

Goalie Ryan Applegate (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra HS) made 16 saves on the night for Catawba.  Kennedy and Zach LaFavre (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth HS) each had three goals for the Indians.  Cook scored two goals and handed out three assists.

Sheen led Pfeiffer with three goals and also picked up an assist.  Kyle Pauwels had two goals and two assists with Eddie Renaud also netting two goals.

Catawba travels to Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday to face the Bears at 7 p.m.
